General purpose rubber utility wheel
Used on light lawn equipment, light lawn carts,
toys, bottle trolleys, etc.
Attachment: 1/2” ratchet caps (RC12) offer a
bright nickel finish to the cap. Hold the cap in
place with a short length of 22mm OD (1/2”)
tube supporting the outer rim, and then tap on
with a hammer. Always use these on bright
steel axles. The PRA and PRB wheels are an
offset centre so the axle does not stick out,
the PRP is symmetrical.

Nylon - general purpose
These non-rusting, non-scratching wheels have
many uses such as toys, trolleys, mechanical
handling devices, replacements in castors, etc.
Nylon can be used from -30°C up to +100°C for
short periods and longer periods between 0°C
up to 80°C.
It can be used in wet conditions, but it cannot
be constantly immersed.
Good resistance to most chemicals. Roller
bearings recommended at heavier loads. |

The normal temperature limit of our standard wheels and castors in Zero Degrees Celsius to 60 Degrees Celsius. Within this range the Fallshaw products work normally for their full working life. In colder or hotter conditions they behave differently and may need to be modified to work efficiently.
High Temperature Use:
Above 60 Degrees Celsius you must specify temperature of use at the time of ordering. As temperatures increase, tyre materials become softer and this lowers the load capacity. At still higher teperatures (and when hot for longer pieriods), the materials begin to deteriorate which shortens working life.
Polypropylene and rubber wheels begin to lose considerable strength between 60 Degrees Celsius and 100 Degrees Celsius.
Polyurethane tyres retain most of their properties up to 90 Degrees Celsius even for long periods (apart from a gradual lowering of load capacity) and can be used for short periods at even higher temperatures. However, caution is needed. For example at 100 Degrees Celsius they lose only 5% of their tensile strength after 20 days but at 120 Degrees Celsius they are down to 50% in 20 days while at 150 Degrees Celsius they are down to only 15% in 5 days. Fibreglass reinforced nylon wheels are the preferred wheel for extended periods up to 210 Degrees Celsius (assuming most of their life is spent outside the oven) and for short periods up to 230 Degrees Celsius.
Phenolic wheels (with special inorganic fillers and PTFE bushes) are preferred for extended periods up to 280 Degrees Celsius (assuming most of their life is spent outside the oven) and for short peiouds up to 300 Degrees Celsius. These have a thick cross section but are more brittle than either nylon or ordinary grades of phenolic. For sustained high temperature use, we offer a range of cast iron wheeled castors (caution is needed as cast iron wheels will cause damage to concrete floors) used with high temperature grease. This grease can be used up to 230 Degrees Celsius for long periods. Above 230 Degrees Celsius even more exotic greases need to be used....consult with our sales reprentatives.
Low Temperature Use:
Below Zero Degrees Celsius you must specify temperature of use at the time of ordering. The standard grease supplied in Fallshaw castors is lithium complex grease. This has excellent water resistance, bearing retention and long life. But below 5 Degrees Celsius it begins to stiffen quickly and will soon freeze the bearings so that neither the castor swivels nor the wheel bearings revolve. If specified at the time of ordering, we can use a special aeronautical grease which is a synthetic oil with a migrogel thickener to work effectively in chilling rooms, freezing stores and outdoor winter use in northern countries where ordinary grease would be useless.
As the temperature becomes lower, the softer rubber and polyurethane treads on the wheels become less elastic. For exapmple the polyurethane used on the H series range of castors slowly stiffens from + 20 Degrees Celsius down to - 20 Degrees Celsius but then rapidly stiffens until at - 50 Degrees Celsius it becomes brittle.
As temperature goes below Zero Degrees Celsius nylon can become brittle (particularly if it is kept for long periods in the very dry air in freezing rooms). At such times we recommend fibreglass reinforced wheel which can be used down to -30 Degrees Celsius.

Steel centred tubeless pneumatics:
Welded one piece strong wobble free tubeless wheels. Centres up to and including the 500x6
are manufactured from 1.8mm steel, and the 650x8 is of 2mm thick steel
(NOTE: -some of the
cheaper centres on the market are manufactured from steel as thin as 0.6mm)
Wheels can be retro-fitted with tubes.

Bearings:
‘Deep Groove’ shielded bearings fitted to a toughened heavy duty housing gives true running
and extra strength (NOTE: Deep groove bearings can last up to 3 times longer than normal
pressed bearings).
Tyres:
4 ply (6 ply on HWY tread) for longer, rougher life (many imports use 2 ply).
For wheels pulled or pushed at low speeds (not driven) the tread pattern is not critical.
It is normal for air filled wheels to loose tyre pressure over time even if they are not being used and it is important for safety that you ensure that the wheels are pumped up to their recommended PSI before use - alternatively you can use our semi-pneumatic puncture proof wheels in applications that require wheels that never go flat!

RIB: Straight lines, common in most wheelchairs and light duty trolleys that need a softer ride.
LUG & LGG : General purpose, outside use. Strongly marked cross lines on a fairly flat tread surface. Good for running in a straight line. Use LGG code for grey rubber (non marking of floors)
IND: The normal industrial type tread, a round profile with an even pattern for general use. DMD &STR: Star shaped pads on a flatter surface. Often used in rougher construction sites. Good for softer grass surfaces but may become clogged with mud.
KNO: This knobbly pattern is often preferred for outdoor use, good for gravel or uneven terrain.
HWY: Jagged lines on a thick, 6 ply tyre designed to have a higher load rating for industrial work sites.

Do NOT inflate over recommended tyre pressure 30 psi (max. 35 psi).
Do NOT allow tyre pressure to drop bellow 20 psi or wheel may deflate and become very
difficult to reinflate. If you allow the tyre to go flat and you are unable to reinflate it then you will
need to buy an inner tube to be retro fitted to the wheel.
